Mermaid Proteins is a brand of BlueLoop Protein ApS, a Danish marine ingredient company. We make collagen from a fishing sidestream that today has almost no value.

How we got here
We started in 2025 at DTU Skylab, the innovation hub of the Technical University of Denmark, working on protein from a herring processing sidestream. The trials worked, but the numbers did not: the product sold for too little to cover the cost of making it. So we asked a different question: what is the highest-value ingredient we can make from the best marine raw material that goes to waste?
The answer was collagen from fish skeleton. In January 2026 we incorporated BlueLoop Protein ApS, and Mermaid Proteins became our brand.
